Eugene McCague
Chairman
Eugene joined the board of Appian in October 2017, following his retirement as a partner in Arthur Cox, one of Ireland's leading law firms. He has over 35 year’s experience as a corporate lawyer, specialising in corporate governance as well as being involved in a wide range of corporate advisory and transactional work. He served as both Managing Partner and Chairman of Arthur Cox. He has been involved as a non-executive director of public and private commercial companies, State boards and not for profit companies. He was President of Dublin Chamber of Commerce and is currently the Chair of the Governing Authority of University College Dublin.
Patrick J Lawless
Chief Executive Officer
Patrick founded Appian in 2003 after completing the management buy-out of the private client arm of Aberdeen Asset Management Ireland Limited. He has over 25 years' investment experience in the asset management business and was Head of Investment for ABN AMRO Bank in Ireland. Patrick is a qualified Investment Analyst and is a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute and the Society of Investment Professionals in the UK and Ireland. Patrick also sits on the Committee of Management of the Irish Forestry Unit Trust (IFUT)
Kevin Menton
Director
Kevin joined Appian in October 2008. He began his career in banking with Bank of Ireland Group and spent 10 years with Ulster Bank Group where he was Head of Corporate Banking Division. Subsequent to his banking career, Kevin has spent 15 years working in industry and successfully sold Allspace Limited, a company he co-founded in 1994. Kevin is a business and economics graduate of Trinity College, Dublin.
Brian Cahalin
Director
Brian joined Appian as Head of Compliance in June 2011, with over 25 years’ experience in investment and asset management. Prior to joining Appian Brian was Area Compliance Officer for HSBC in Ireland having previously worked as Head of Investment Operations for a prominent asset manager and Chief Financial Officer at a leading stockbroker. Brian is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds an MBA from UCD. Brian was appointed to the Appian Board in August 2011.
Pat Cox
Non-Executive Director
Pat joined the Board of Appian in October 2017. He was formerly President of the European Parliament (2002 – 2004), being elected on 15 January 2002, having served as an MEP, Munster from 1989. He served as a TD for Cork South Central (1992-1994). He was General Secretary of the Progressive Democrats (1986-1989). Pat is President of the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe, Lausanne, Switzerland. He is also a member of the Appointment Advisory Committee, of the European Investment Bank. He holds many honours/awards including Commandeur de la Légion d’honneur, France and Commandeur de l”ordre des Palmes académiques, France and national honours in Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Poland and Romania.
Greg Lawless
Non-Executive Director
A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Greg joined the board of Appian in May 2003. Greg is a director and significant shareholder in Arena Group Limited in the UK and Hireall Limited and Caterhire Limited in Ireland. Prior to this he worked for Deloittes and KPMG in Dublin and Minneapolis and was subsequently a director at Davy Corporate Finance, the corporate finance arm of Davy Stockbrokers.
Tony McArdle
Non-Executive Director
Tony Joined our board in February 2015. He was previously a director of Ulster Bank where he had been head of corporate banking and chief executive of retail banking as well as holding a number of other senior positions. After leaving Ulster Bank in 2002, Tony held a number of non-executive directorships including Kingspan Group plc and is currently a non-executive director of several large private companies

Eugene Kiernan
Head of Investment Strategy
Eugene leads our Investment Strategy and Asset Allocation process and outcome. Eugene joined Appian in April 2014 with over 30 years experience in the Asset Management industry. Most recently he was Head of Investment Solutions for AIB Investment Managers have successfully managed the Multi-manager range of funds since 2006. Prior to this he was with Irish Life where he was Head of Asset Allocation having previously been Head of International Equities and having worked in a variety of areas including stock selection and portfolio management. Many of the funds managed were internationally recognised award winners He also served as a director of an Emerging Markets equity fund. Eugene holds a MA in economics from UCD and a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Securities Institute.
Pat Kilduff
Senior Fund Manager
Pat's main focus is on Economic Analysis and our bond and cash portfolios. Pat has been with Appian since inception. Pat has 15 years’ experience working in the financial markets sector, having previously worked for ABN AMRO Stockbrokers as a portfolio manager and prior to that with Goodbody Stockbrokers. Pat is a registered representative of the Irish Stock Exchange and is a graduate in economics from University College Dublin.
John Mattimoe
Senior Fund Manager
John's primary responsibility is managing our Small Company Fund. John previously worked with Merrion Stockbrokers where he held the position of Senior Equity Analyst. He previously worked for Norwich Union Investment Managers and NCB Stockbrokers. John who holds an MSc in Investment and Treasury from Dublin City University was voted Finance Magazine's Analyst of the Year in 2007 and 2008. John is a registered representative of the Irish Stock Exchange and an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
Niall Dineen
Senior Fund Manager
Niall takes the lead in managing our large cap equity portfolios. Niall has over fifteen years’ successful experience in Fund Management. Previously, he worked with AGF, a Canadian mutual fund company, where he held the position of Senior Portfolio Manager. Niall has considerable experience in managing Global Equity Portfolios and has spent periods of time working in North America and Asia. Niall is a qualified investment professional, holding an MBS in Financial Services from University College Dublin and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

John Flavin
Senior Relationship Manager
John joined Appian in February 2015 from Julius Baer where he was Executive Director in the Dublin office. He previously held positions with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management; Bank of Ireland Private Banking and for 13 years managed the Irish business interests of a leading Swiss family office. He started his career with E&Y and KPMG. John is a business graduate of Trinity College Dublin, a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and a Qualified Financial Adviser.
Ian Naughton
Client Services
After 2 years working in the Fixed Income & Equity operational departments in Bear Stearns Ian moved to the Legal & Compliance Department where he worked as an AMLO Officer & Compliance Officer for 3 years. Ian currently works in our Compliance & Operations department and in particular works with our segregated accounts clients to ensure the smooth management of their portfolios.
Anna Hadfield
Executive Assistant to the CRM Team
Anna joined Appian in December 2016. She holds a B.A (Hons) in Philosophy and English and prior to joining Appian has worked with Chapter One Restaurant, The Merrion Hotel and Arthur Cox. Anna is responsible for the administration of the CRM team and ensures that the office is run efficiently for our clients and staff.

Anne Chambers
Operations Manager
Anne joined Appian In September 2006. She previously worked as a Manager with AIB Private Banking and prior to that with ABN AMRO Bank. Anne is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and a Qualified Financial Adviser.
Conor Rowan
Finance and Operations
Conor joined Appian in May of 2014 after 2 years working with Arvato Finance in their Client Services and Financial Operations departments. Conor is a graduate of UCD and holds a Master’s in Business Management from UCD Michael Smurfit Business School. Conor currently works as part of our Compliance and Operations team dealing directly with our trading and settlements platform along with client queries.
Ruth O’Brien
Executive Assistant to Chief Executive Officer
Ruth joined Appian in February 2016, prior to this, Ruth worked with Jackson Square Aviation and GMT Global Aviation setting up their Dublin operations. Ruth has over 25 years’ experience working at a senior level in financial services.
James Fitzsimons
Human Resources
James has 26 years senior level experience in Human Resources, executive search and recruitment. James has successfully built and exited two leading recruitment businesses in the Irish market. He has also advised multiple local and international companies on HR, staff and organisational development projects. James holds a BA from University College Dublin, a Professional Diploma in Accountancy and a Diploma in Personnel Management.
Andy Johnston
Head of IT
Andy is an IT strategist and service delivery professional with over 30 year’s experience in the industry. He has delivered large scale business technology transformation across a range of businesses and industry sectors. Andy has been consulting for the past 5 years having held Senior IT and Enterprise Architecture roles in the AIB Group up to 2012. Within Appian Asset Management, Andy provides governance and direction around ICT related regulation, compliance, policy and standards as well as oversight and support to technology related business plans, investments and change initiatives.

Paul Halley
Head of Compliance
Paul joined Appian in June 2016. He has held senior management positions in the fields of compliance, fund services and trustee/depositary services with a range of blue chip financial service providers in Ireland. He has worked with Bank of Ireland Asset Management, Dolmen Stockbrokers, BNY Mellon and IBRC Assurance company. He started his career with KPMG and is a business graduate of Trinity College Dublin, and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
Tommy Jin
Risk Manager
Tommy joined Appian as Risk Manager in April 2016. He previously worked in the Group Internal Audit Department in Capita Asset Services with responsibility for the fund solutions and asset servicing businesses in Ireland, UK and Europe. Prior to this Tommy worked in the Asset Management Group in PwC and has extensive experience in the provision of assurance services to the investment management industry. Tommy is a graduate in Finance from NUI Maynooth and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from DIT. Tommy is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
